Consolator Jesus Christ Painting, by Carl Bloch

Jesus Christ

In Christianity, revered as the Son of God and the promised Messiah. According to the New Testament, he was born to the Virgin Mary, lived a life of teaching, miracles, and compassion, and was crucified around 30–33 CE under Roman governor Pontius Pilate. Christians believe he rose from the dead on the third day, ascended to heaven, and will return at the end of time. His life and teachings, recorded in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John), form the foundation of Christian faith.

Prayers to Jesus Christ

Anima Christi

Origin: Attributed to St. Ignatius of Loyola, though possibly earlier.

Text:
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Your wounds, hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from You.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
At the hour of my death, call me,
And bid me come to You,
That with Your saints I may praise You,
Forever and ever. Amen.

Text (abridged): You are Christ, my Holy Father, my Tender God, my Great King, my Good Shepherd, my Only Master, my Best Helper, my Most Beautiful and my Beloved, my Living Bread, my Priest Forever, my Leader to my Country, my True Light, my Holy Sweetness, my Straight Way, my Excellent Wisdom, my Pure Simplicity, my Peaceful Harmony, my Entire Protection, my Good Portion, my Everlasting Salvation… Why have I ever loved, why in my whole life have I ever desired anything except You, Jesus my God?… May every good feeling that is fitted for Your praise, love You, delight in You… may I be found consummated with You

Prayer of St. John Gabriel Perboyre to Jesus

Origin: Composed by St. John Gabriel Perboyre, 19th-century priest and martyr.

Text:
O my Divine Savior, transform me into Yourself. May my hands be the hands of Jesus. Grant that every faculty of my body may serve only to glorify You. Above all, transform my soul and all its powers so that my memory, will, and affection may be the memory, will, and affection of Jesus. I pray You to destroy in me all that is not of You. Grant that I may live but in You, by You, and for You, so that I may truly say, with St. Paul, “I live, now not I, but Christ lives in me.”

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, to You I consecrate and offer up my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring, and glorifying You… I take You, O Sacred Heart, for the sole object of my love, the protection of my life, the pledge of my salvation, and my refuge in temptation and at death…
